Agere unveils system-on-a-chip for portable HDD devices
Agere Systems today announced a new highly integrated system-on-a-chip (SoC) for miniature hard disk drives (HDDs) used in portable consumer electronics (CE) devices. The low-power chip provides complete support for perpendicular recording and new interface standards that enable small-form-factor (SFF) system makers to offer three times the capacity of flash-based storage with lower cost, claims the company.
