Agere Pushes 802.11a To 162 Mbits/s

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Building upon the success of 802.11b networks, wireless manufacturers are rumbling onward with even faster alternatives.

The danger, however, is that some "standards" are actually semi-proprietary, as some of the specifications they're based on have not been formally ratified. Broadcom and other suppliers have pushed ahead on developing 802.11g products, although the specification has only move to the ballot stage.
