ADSL routers with built-in WLAN modules to account for 60% of global shipments in 2006

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Of the total global shipments of ADSL routers in 2006, the proportion of those with a built-in wireless LAN (WLAN) module is expected to climb to 60% by year-end, up from about 33% currently, according to sources at WLAN chipmaker Broadcom. Increasing demand from the ADSL sector, increasing interest in WLAN modules spurred by the establishment of the pre-N standard (pre-802.11n) and continued deployment of WLAN modules in the consumer electronics (CE) segment - these will all be growth drivers for built-in WLAN modules this year, commented Michael Hurlston, vice president of Broadcom, recently.
