This isn't a huge story, but it's a part of the happenings at the Intel Developer's Forum (IDF) that folks show how buddy-buddy they are with the silicon giant. That may not be such a bad idea financially, as Intel looks like it's just going for broke to push its technology while a majority of tech companies are cash poor (not really poor, but not making as much as they used to). Anyway, at the show, Adaptec let us know that it will participate in a co-promotion with Intel. From August 27, 2001 until December 28, 2001 Adaptec's USB 2.0 and 1394 PCI cards will be bundled with Intel's new Micro ATX 2.0GHz P4 desktop boards when they are sold in 10-pack quantities of each. Adaptec's USB2connect 3100LP, FireConnect 4300 and DuoConnect PCI cards will be featured in the promotion. USB2connect 3100LP is a four-port USB 2.0 host bus adapter that is USB-IF compliant. FireConnect 4300 is a three-port 1394 PCI card that is packaged with MGI's VideoWave 4 SE digital video editing software. DuoConnect boards give you both 1394 and USB 2.0 slots using a single card (for "future-proofing," or is it "hedging your bets?"). Intel's D850MV, D850MD, D845HV and D845WN desktop boards will be featured in this promotion. The D850MV and D850MD boards feature the Intel 850 chipset. The D845HV and D845WN boards support up to 3GB of single-data-rate (SDR) PC133 SDRAM memory and use the Intel 845 chipset.
