Ad firm to offer free DSL service

by - source: Tom's Hardware

A Southern California company is raising the ante of free Internet service by offering no-cost DSL service.

Calling itself the Broadband Digital Group, the enterprise is led by the same entrepreneur that started Net ad companies AdForce and AdSmart. The firm plans to give away DSL accounts supported entirely by advertisements.

Analysts say the move was inevitable in an industry increasingly marked by free email, free dial-up Net service and even free personal computers.

The FreeDSL site will start taking registrations for customers in several major metropolitan areas around the United States. The service is due to be activated April 1.
