Activision Defends Modern Warfare 2 PC

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

PC gamer rage isn't worrying Activision too much.

With the news that the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would lack dedicated servers, console commands, lean, and among many other features that were available in the first Modern Warfare, many PC gamers are unhappy with the 'dumbing down' of the sequel.

In fact, many of you have commented that you have cancelled your preorders in response to the design decisions made by Infinity Ward. But Activision, publisher of what will be one of the largest titles of the year, doesn't seem all that worried about the backlash from PC gamers.

"We're, of course, watching this very carefully and paying attention to it," Activision president Mike Griffith said in response to a financial analyst, as noted by Kotaku. "But we're not overly concerned about it."

"One of the problems with our PC SKUs in the past is that it has not been as friendly a consumer experience in terms of matchmaking and online play as the consoles have allowed it to be," he added. "Our solution here improves that consumer experience overall by a significant margin. And so we think that the benefits we will see are going to far outweigh any negatives that seem to be surfacing."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be launching on November 11. Check out the launch trailer below.

"We basically couldnt give two shits about what the Pc market thinks as we're too busy contemplating the huge amount of cash that's about to come our way."
Thank you Activision for once again proving to your loyal fans how much you value our opinion.

Looks like Activision really does care more about money than customer loyalty.

Who asked them for this bullshit? Noone thats who. Ive played both CoD4 and 5 on PC and console as im sure many have. The PC Experience is FAR FAR better. Matchmaking is crap and casual, for those of us who want to play with the same guys, in a community its a kick up the ass.
As for the servers, i think enough has been said.
And Consumer-Friendlyness. Right one thing here
IF YOU WANT IT TO BE FRIENDLY AND COUSHY BUY IT ON CONSOLES AND LEAVE THE PC TO THE BIG BOYS.

Thank you and fuck off Activision.

So what they are telling us is that the PC multiplayer market is inherently less newbie player friendly.

They are trying to contain the PC mutliplayer flaws as they see it, but in reality we all know that will lead to less sales on PC.

isn't the hardcore player marginalized and socially ostracized enough? Now it's leaked into what should be a hardcore game.

Received my copy early today, to even install the single player aspect of the game it forces you to install a steam component, then register your key code online via steam. Lo and behold the key was "invalid".

I was really looking forward to this game, as i spent countless hours on CoD 4(i didnt like WaW either). And now i find out that Coc*Su****Ward is taking out all the stuff that was better than the console games. It should be the other f***** way arround the consoles should learn from the PC. And i cannot cancel my f***** preorder now, im pretty pissed... F**** Activision, for ruining one of the best games out there.

It looks like the highest number of player in a game will be 9vs9. I cant remember the last time I played on a server with less than 20, and that was at something like 4am.

I'm very disappointed with Infinity Ward and Activision. I was very excited about this game, but when I heard "NO DEDICATED SERVERS" my spirit for this game just broke, and when they shot me in the heart with the no-lean gameplay.

I just stood there looking at a company that made Call of duty 2 and 4, and now they basicly don't care about PC gamers.

Mark my words IW, I will never buy another game from your company! Stick with making games for consoles, because never again!

This sort of crap is why I exclusively buy VALVe FPS games now, the other companies aren't worth my pennies.

Simple answer, don't buy it!

I've never bought any game at all since EA Games dumbed down Battlefield 2 to make it easy for the no skill cry boys (the planes are too powerful, the black hawk is too powerful, (I played infantry BTW), the good players kill me too easily, you know the drill) - most of whom were in any case below the age rating and so shouldn't be playing anyway. Before that I used to buy lots of games.

Was kind of contemplating coming back to gaming (not EA games) after a 4 year abstinence with this one but I guess this has made up my mind for me, I'll stick to forums. Far less drama and its far cheaper. £1,000 a year to upgrade your pc for what? A game at Mario Cart level of skill?

Gaming companies are only interested in making for consoles now, and games for skill less idiots who rely on auto-aiming and dumbing down. Back at the Battlefield 1942 stage when the companies used to listen to the top league players in development such as Team Hot or Logitech, games had some skill and were fun. Now its cater for the lowest common denominator. Not on my pc!

I don't buy games to be dumb or converted into something different from what I bought by patches a month or two after release. The money's staying firmly in my pocket. I'm one customer the PC gaming industry has definitely lost long term.

If you're really upset about MW, I suggest you do the same, save your money and buy another title or leave gaming and find something else to do in your life. Best thing I ever did.

A alterntive wich I will use is to buy BF:BC2 wich will come out to pc in 2 March 2010.

It will kick MW2 ass!

Destuctible environment
Large Maps
Huge Battles
Unlocks of wide range
It is made properly for PC, not like this bad made port to PC.
