U.S. PC Companies Dead in 20 Years, says Acer
Acer to survive while HP and Dell to vanish?
The computer selling landscape has changed considerably over the last 20 years. Some of the moves were impossible to predict, but Taiwanese founder of computer maker Acer thinks he has a pretty good idea of what will happen to his U.S. competitors within two decades' time – disappear.
Acer has surged its way up to being the second biggest seller of computers worldwide, something which is attributable to the company's low-priced offerings and netbooks. The price sensitivity of the consumer is what has Stan Shih, founder of Acer, confident in the Taiwanese company's survival over American rivals.
"The trend for low-priced computers will last for the coming years," said Shih, according to the AFP's quote of a Commercial Times newspaper interview. "But U.S. computer makers just don't know how to put such products on the market... US computer brands may disappear over the next 20 years, just like what happened to U.S. television brands."
What Shih is saying that Dell and HP, both leaders in the North American computer market, could be gone by 2030.

I have purchased an Acer laptop and had nothing but problems.
I will never buy Acer crap again....
Acer have had this laptop twice for repair for over 2 months and they recon it will be back on the 24th of Jan when I was promised it would be delivered by the 14th.
I have been told nothing but lies by the Indian call centre.
Have spoken to many including Sadhim, Ranker and Raja amongst others.
Each have been going on about various excuses on why it isnt fixed.
The worst computer I have ever purchased. Boycot this company now !!
Acer, how you got to "number 2" is beyond me, even Dell are better than you and thats saying something.
The Acer 7540G has got motherboard issues which cause the machine to hibernate whilst in use with a full battery.
Never in my life have i been disapointed with a pile of crap which is Acer.. Never again.
Two things:
1. Acer suck dead donkey dick.
2. HP's main segment isn't consumer desktops/laptops, it's printers/workstations/servers for business and enterprise (and supporting them). If they had to withdraw from the consumer laptop market, they wouldn't be 'dead'.
I prefer Dell to HP. Would never get one for myself though.
LOL...the pic and the "female" status was suppose to make the advert transgress smoother....
