A Naked Dawn Causes Quite A Sunrise
Since NVIDIA launched the GeForceFX product line, this product line has featured a technology demo known as "Dawn." The Dawn demo was designed to showcase some of the technology of the GeForceFX product line, while also capturing viewer attention with incredible realism that NVIDIA has named "The Dawn Of Cinematic Computing."
Since NVIDIA launched the Dawn demo, which features a scantily clad, lifelike, svelte and beautiful female fairy creature as "Dawn," more than a few propeller heads have fantasized both publicly and privately what a "naked" version of Dawn would look like. While to some this may seem like school boy curiosity run amok, it appears that one of the curious has found a way to 'unclothe' Dawn. That's right: someone has modified the Dawn demo so that it will run Dawn sans tunic.
While this may seem like a complete waste of effort to some, the Dawn demo modification seems to be all the rage. Not to be upstaged, NVIDIA's competitor, ATI, issued a statement about the newly naked Dawn demo: "Our monkey is already naked," joked Chris Hook, PR Manager of ATI, referring to the Chimpanzee Demo that was released during ATI's Radeon 9800 launch.
In the past, no one has paid much attention to technology demos. The media regularly views technology demos and occasionally comments on them; however, the Dawn demo, with and without attire, has changed all of that. With each major graphics card release the technology audience may now come to expect demos that offer more than just product demonstrations and information. Yes, sex does sell products, and Dawn is a very sexy looking female form. But by focusing on the "sex sells" side of a product, does this detract from the product message that is delivered as to the product's quality and its capabilities? Is this just a juvenile quest for cheap thrills, or is there more to it?
