Bethesda Reveals The Evil Within from Shinji Mikami's Studio

Bethesda is dipping into the survival horror genre by publishing The Evil Within in 2014. The game, originally codenamed "Zwei", is in development at Japan-based Tango Gameworks, a division of ZeniMax Asia. The studio was founded in March 2010 by Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil series.

The Evil Within is slated to launch on the PC, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as the upcoming next-generation consoles. Bethesda was not very forthcoming with the juicy details, but said that additional information will be provided in an exclusive feature article by IGN on April 22 (Monday).

"We’re incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within," said Mikami. "My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action."

Mikami originally opened his studio with 13 employees, intent on returning to the survival horror genre. But Tango reportedly grew to 65 employees by 2012, and Mikami is looking to employ around 100 designers in total. The team features developers from Capcom, Game Republic, Platinum Games and Grasshopper Manufacture.

Bethesda teased gamers all week with hints of the new game through Vine, Twitter's video-based social app that allows users to create and share 6-second clips. The camera only records while the screen is being pressed, thus the resulting clip looks similar to GIF-based animation. Bethesda provided a series of interesting three clips, hinting to what seemed like a return to the Wolfenstein franchise.

So what then is the Skyrim team now working on? Guess we'll find out soon enough.
