ZTE Launches Tania Windows Phone in the UK
ZTE announced its moderately-priced, moderately-spec'd Tania today.
Telecommunications company and OEM ZTE will occasionally produce own-brand handset and today the company added the first one of the year to its portfolio in the form of the ZTE Tania. This one is a Windows Phone, and is launching soon in the United Kingdom.
As far as specifications go, this definitely isn't the beefiest smartphone we've seen (especially not when you consider the quad-core offerings we're expecting this year) but it's not low-end, either. It's got a 4.3-inch WVGA 800 x 480 touchscreen display, a single-core processor clocked to 1GHz, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. On the software side of things, the Tania is packing the latest version of Windows Phone, also known as Windows Phone 7.5 or Mango, so while it's not mighty as others in terms of specs, it's still a pretty current phone thanks to its OS.
"We're delighted to be working with Microsoft and as a key partner will support the industry forecasted growth on this exciting new platform with both the ZTE Tania and in the future a growing range of devices," said Mr Wu Sa, director of mobile operations at ZTE UK. "Last year, ZTE announced its plans to build market presence with ZTE branded devices with the release of the ZTE Skate, Libra and Tureis. Our first own-brand handset to enter the market in 2012 is the ZTE Tania."
Pricing isn't completely set in stone yet, but ZTE says the phone will be sold on-contract for around £10-£20 per month. There's also word that you'll be able to buy the phone outright for a price of £250.
