Young Scientists exhibition breaks last year's record

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

It’s that time of year again. All the secondary schools (and a handful of primary) in Ireland get their brainiest kids and pack them off to The Young Scientists Exhibition in Dublin’s RDS.

The BT Young Scientist and Technology exhibition has been running all week in the RDS arena and is scheduled to finish on the 12th of January.

Whatever about last years exhibiton being big, this year’s has smashed the records. With over 3,514 students represented by 1,416 projects it’s an 11% increase on last years entries.

Last years 2:1 ratio of girls to boys remains the same.

In September the 2007 winner of the exhibition went on to win 1st place in Mathematics at the 19th European Union Contest for Young Scientists in Valencia, Spain. Bravo.

The exhibition is in it’s 43rd year (technology existed that long ago ?) and has seen a mixture of male and female winners.

To date, Irish students have taken the top honours ten times at the European Union Science Contest.

Irish Young Scientists are amongst the youngest entrants and have scooped over 20 top awards in the Science and Engineering Fair in the USA.

Hurray for being Irish, eh ?

'(they had technology that long ago?)' bit racist?

Whoops, that sentence was badly worded. It was merely meant to highlight how far technology has come since the 1960s. Racism was never my intention. Sorry :s
