YouTube to Stream Full MGM Movies
Reports doing the rounds in blogosphere suggest that YouTube will today announce an agreement to show some full-length television shows and films from MGM Studios.
The New York Times reports that MGM will kick off the partnership by posting episodes of “American Gladiators” along with full-length action films like “Bulletproof Monk” and “The Magnificent Seven” and clips from popular movies like “Legally Blonde.” If the announcement comes to fruition, it will echo a similar one made around this time last month which saw the Google-owned video sharing site announce full length episodes of Star Trek and Beverly Hills 90210.
Reactions to last months announcement were mixed. While users seemed to applaud the idea of full length shows in general, not many were too keen on the fact that the deal came with advertising. The announcement (via the GooTube Blog) explained how the site was going to make sure it fit those ads in somewhere :
“We also want to ensure that our partners have more options when it comes to advertising on their full-length TV shows. You may see in-stream video ads (including pre-, mid- and post-rolls) embedded in some of these episodes ; this advertising format will only appear on premium content where you are most comfortable seeing such ads.”
According to the New York Times, these clips will be free to watch but will also feature ads running alongside the video. There has yest to be an official announcement from YouTube but we’ll update when we know more.
