Yahoo to launch own version of Digg
Yahoo ! has unveiled it’s latest venture, Buzz.
The Digg-like site allows users to rate news stories from other sites. The top rated stories from Buzz will then be bumped onto the Yahoo ! homepage, alongside the news from the bigger sites.
Of course, the people at Yahoo ! are only human and it’s pretty much impossible for them to keep up with every piece of news on the internet and so this is where Buzz users come in.
It can be anything from a blog on TechDarling to a news piece on the New York Times, if it gets the ratings you could see it on the Yahoo ! frontpage.
Yahoo ! explains Buzz like so :
A story is ranked based on its Buzz Score. The score is derived from search term popularity, the number of times a story is emailed from Buzz, and the number of votes a story receives. Stories with the highest Buzz Scores may be published on the Yahoo ! home page.
It then goes on to say how you could impact what millions of people see on Yahoo ! Come on now, lets not put ideas in their heads. We’ve all seen what that carrot group on Facebook is like. Buying carrots in bulk just because you’re told to. . .Tut tut.
Over a hundred publications have already agreed to place a "Buzz" button beside stories on their websites.
