Vodafone Reveals Xperia Play Pricing and Plans

by - source: Vodafone UK

Vodafone has just released pricing for the Xperia Play, aka the PlayStation Phone, and we've got good news: For some, it will be free!

It seems like we've been talking about the release of the Xperia Play for years (probably because we have), and despite various carriers teasing the launch, we still don't know when we're actually going to see it in the shops. Today, Vodafone took things one step further, and provided pricing and details of plans available for PSP phone.

Probably the most important detail is that Vodafone UK will give those willing to sign certain contacts the phone for free. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will cost you £199 on a £25-a-month contract, or £99 on a £30-a-month contract. Any Xperia Play shopper signing a plan that's £35-per-month or more will get the phone for free.

Though everyone's got their own opinions about carrier subsidies and how much you really save in the long run, 'free' will likely prove attractive to some who feel £500 for the off-contract version is too steep.

Still no word on the launch, but Vodafone is taking preorders now. If you order between now and the end of March (so, in the next week), you'll also get a free deckstand, too.
