Redmond (WA) - Microsoft has issued a statement saying it has not made a decision on whether or not to continue to support HD DVD on the Xbox 360.
"We will wait until we hear from Toshiba before announcing any specific plans around the Xbox 360 HD DVD player," said Microsoft. Microsoft offers the HD DVD add-on for around $130.
Additionally, Microsoft is behind the HDi technology, which powers the advanced features on HD DVD. However, the format is all but dead with major announcements from retailers and movie studios that they will be abandoning HD DVD, including pioneers of the format Toshiba and Universal.
Earlier this week, Microsoft also announced that it did not believe the fall of HD DVD would negatively impact the Xbox 360 as a whole. "We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace," said the software giant on Monday.
