Writers' Guild to vote on contract that could end strike
We can all heave one big communal sigh of relief because it looks like the Writers’ Guild of America Strike might be on it’s way to being all done and dusted.
The WGA certainly had a busy couple of days this past weekend as yesterday saw leaders recommend a three-year contract to members and asked them to vote on a bid to end the strike. With both East and West coast board members agreeing the contract should be accepted it is now up to union members to vote separately.
The member voting will take place on Tuesday in LA and New York and if rumours floating around the producers’ circles prove to be correct, the writers could be back to work as early as Wednesday.
Patric Verrone, president of the guild’s West Coast branch, said that while the contract wasn’t all they had hoped for nor was it what they deserved, it would mean that if the producers got paid, the writers would get paid.
In light of last months Golden Globes "ceremony" there are hopes that this nasty business will be over in time for the Oscars...and to a lesser extent, Lost [well, even news editors have their vices -Ed].
