World of Warcraft reaches 9 million subscribers
Irvine (CA) – Blizzard Entertainment has announced that its hit World of Warcraft MMORPG has reached 9 million subscribers. That is half a million more than its previous record announcement released less than five months ago.
"We’re thrilled that gamers around the world have continued to embrace World of Warcraft so enthusiastically," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.

The nine million subscribers is a worldwide figure and includes current subscribers and those with active prepaid cards. Promotional, expired and cancelled accounts were not included in the total.
Blizzard expects even more people to join up or return when it launches the Burning Crusade expansion in China through its partnership with The9.
