Orange, O2 Getting Windows Phone 7.5 Right Now
Windows Phone 7.5, also known as Mango, has officially arrived. The bad news is that it's going to take four weeks to roll it out to all users. If you're on Orange and O2, though, you should be getting it in the immediate future.
Pocket-Lint reports that both Orange and O2 have said they will be providing it to users as soon as possible. Orange said that both the WP7 update will come to its customers "in line with [Microsoft's] UK timings/roll out plans in general" and O2 said that customers will see it appearing as soon as Microsoft starts the roll out. So you know, now.
Sadly, it sounds like a bit of a different story for those of you on Vodafone. The company said that while some users will see it as soon as today, others could be waiting weeks.
"We're expecting the Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) update to be made available to all Vodafone UK HTC 7 Trophy and LG Optimus 7 owners over the coming weeks," the company is cited as saying. "The roll out is being phased by Microsoft and some Vodafone customers will start to receive notifications of its availability for their device from today."
If you're on any of the above networks and feeling like you've got ants in your pants, you can always force the update by doing the following (via WPCentral):
Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune software. If the software tells you there's no update available, you can force the update by clicking another button (WPC says any of the options above or below the word 'Update' will do). After that, you'll want to click the 'Update' button again and then briefly disconnect your computer from the internet 1-2 seconds later. If you get the same 'your phone is already up-to-date' message, you didn't disconnect fast enough. After about 30 seconds or so, a pop-up should appear telling you that an update is available. You'll likely need to do this a few times, as WPC says there's two pre-Mango updates, which are 7392 and 7403. After you've forced 7403 your phone should start automatically installing 7720 (Mango). If not, you'll need to force the update using the instructions above.
