It's On: Windows Phone 7 Launch Set for Monday

Windows Phone 7 is launching Monday and both AT&T and T-Mobile will be unveiling handsets.

It's been confirmed: The worldwide launch of Windows Phone 7 will take place in New York City this day next week. However, more interesting is that fact that, despite rumors stating the opposite, the first Windows Phone 7 device won't be exclusive to AT&T.

An Engadget post this past weekend pointed to an event listing on Microsoft's press website that revealed the company's already confirmed London event for October 11 would be joined by a NYC event on the same day. Now that the event invite is live, and invites have been sent to the press, registration is already full; there's nothing left to do but wait until next Monday for the big reveal. However, we do have a few tidbits to tide you over until then.

Perhaps most importantly, AT&T will not be the exclusive carrier as previously thought. Though Microsoft last month confirmed that Windows Phone 7 devices would be GSM-only until sometime during the first half of next year, AT&T will not be the only GSM carrier getting the phones.

Though the event provides confirmation that AT&T will not be the only one launching WP7 handsets, it seems like the wireless network will still big the big carrier on campus next week. Reports tell us that though the 15:30 to 16:30 timeslot is reserved for T-Mobile, the invites name Steve Ballmer and AT&T's Ralph de la Vega as the main speakers of the event. The event itself is referred to as a "Microsoft and AT&T press conference."
