Windows 7 to Run on iPad With Citrix Receiver

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Don't like the fact that the iPad can't multitask but have, for some reason, decided you're buying the device anyway? Well, rest easy because soon enough, you can run Windows 7 on your shiny Apple tablet and multitask to your heart's content.

Citrix is currently working on creating a Citrix Receiver that will enable users to run Windows 7 on the iPad.

If your company has XenDesktop or XenApp you will be happy to know you will be able to use your iPad for real work as well. It turns out the 9.7-inch display on the iPad with a 1024x768 screen resolution works great for a full VDI XenDesktop. Windows applications run unmodified and securely in the data center, and even multiple applications at once. The advancements that were made for the Citrix Receiver for iPhone will carry over to the iPad, however the iPhone restrictions of screen size and small keyboards are overcome with the iPad. It's a beautiful thing!"

Is this something you'd consider? A lot of people have scoffed at the fact that the iPad runs the iPod touch/iPhone OS making it essentially a giant iPod touch. Would Windows 7 change your mind? Let us know in the comments below!

It would change my mind, but thats not exactly "running" windows 7 is it. Pretty useless for the majority of none business users.

NO, it doesn't change my mind in the least. The 'iphad' is nothing more than an overgrown ipod touch, hardly pocket sized and without full netbook functionality.
Honestly, they may sell a few to the gadget geeks, the must have crowd, but where exactly does it fit in?
My netbook does everything this will do and better. Plus I have a real keyboard attached and full compatibility with my main machines, why would I want one?

I'm a physics student, so taking notes on my netbook doesn't really work very well. I like the idea of the iPad, but seriously, it's pretty useless as is. This Windows 7 thing definitely makes me turn my head.

What kind of Enterprise will shell out money on:
Apple hardware (with limited support and warranty), some server, software from Citrix and SDK to install the lot legally, then pay for unlimited internet access for the pads (remember? It's streams the desktop - you move a mouse it sends data), then for Windows 7 licenses - all just to "fix" what Apple fucked up in the first place? And how does that compare to a £400 Dell laptop or any netbook (available already and cheaper), that could much more, much quicker and much more comfortably?
Come on World - admit it... iPad sucks big time - end of story...

This device is a very poor attempt by apple, is their marketing dept starting to slip? there has been a far better and more usable tablet out for a while from Archos http://www.archos.com/products/nb/ [...] gb&lang=en

It runs windows 7 has a usb port and all the features that apple seem to think none of us will want.

Would I buy the Ipad? no chance!
