Wii shortages give the DS a shove in the right, record breaking direction

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

While there’s no Wii’s to be found for love nor money, the Nintendo DS is selling like, well, like the Wii would if you could get one anywhere.

As you already know the Wii broke it’s own sales records this week and would have carried on selling if there wasn’t for the ongoing shortages. But the DS has been doing a little record breaking of it’s own.

Nintendo sold 653,000 DS Lites over the week proceeding Thanksgiving. This breaks the record for portable consoles, Nintendo, and not to mention the entire industry.

Other consoles boosted by the Wii shortage and Thanksgiving were Sony’s PS3 (245 percent increase, doesn’t it make you sick ?) and it’s PSP slim, which managed to hit the 1 million unit mark. Although, Sony are claiming the PS3 increase is due to the recent cut in price. Can you blame them ? Which would you rather admit, that your product was way too over-priced or that people were only buying it in the absence of something else ? Rock and a hard place, lads.

So now, after entertaining us for the past year and a bit, the Wii is boosting other peoples’ sales. Is there anything it can’t do ?
