Wii steams ahead of PS3 in Japan thanks to February titles

Tokyo (Japan) - After the Playstation 3 began to narrow in on the Wii in Japan, the Nintendo platform blasted the sales charts this month thanks in large part to Wii Fit and Super Smash Bros Brawl.

According to game magazine Entertbrain, the Wii beat the PS3 on a scale of four-to-one this month, selling 331,627 consoles. The PS3 came in at just 89,131 units.

While the PS3 has been consistently behind the Wii since their respective launches, the PS3 was narrowing the gap in the past few months.

However, the Wii had a couple major titles that helped foster console adoption. Super Smash Bros Brawl launched this month and has already sold 1.33 million units in Japan. Additionally, Wii Fit continues to be a huge seller for Japan. Brawl is headed to the US next month followed by Wii Fit in May.

Meanwhile, the Xbox 360, which has historically performed miserably in Japan, sold only 14,079 units this month.
