200 Pubs to Get WiFi Thanks to BT and Heineken
Is this in preparation for the Olympics, too?
With phones getting more advanced and tablets becoming more common-place, our need for WiFi hotspots is greater than ever. And, to meet this demand, it seems like the number of places offering internet access is growing by the day. By 2012, even the buses will have WiFi! So, what's left, then? The pubs, of course!
British Telecom has struck a deal with Heineken that will see the former offer WiFi in 100 UK pubs, with that number set to rise to 200 by the end of 2012. BT customers will get access for free, as will owners of devices on networks that have signed their own deals with BT. Others will have to pay to use the WiFi, though BT has not said how much.
"The partnership with BT reinforces the brand’s reputation as a leading player in the development of technology," Rick Lawrence, marketing manager of Heineken UK, said. " The Wi-Fi initiative will provide excellent exposure for Heineken among its key target audience and build greater affinity between the brand and its consumers."
BT and Heineken have also teamed up with i, the mini Independent, that will see its content appearing on the 'Heinekin Hub.'

The problem with BT public WiFi is that places with BT WiFi hotspots often advertise as having free WiFi, which is only true if you're a BT customer.
Now if only BT customers can get free Heineken.
