According to data collected by security-specialist, Sopho, more than half of Britain’s computer users are guilty of Wi-Fi mooching. Are you surprised?
You really shouldn’t be, these days it’s looking more and more like a victimless crime. Believe it or not, there are people out there who believe that stealing Wi-Fi is like shaking the vending machine for a free Mars bar (shocker).
Basically, you’re looking at every second person in Britain poaching bandwidth. So if it’s not you, it’s the bloke in the cubicle over the way, and if he denies it, one of you is lying.
However, all jokes aside, Wi-Fi mooching in the wrong hands can be messy, what with all those criminals out there. So, with over half of the computer owning population doing it, it’s surprising to learn that there have only been 11 arrests of Wi-Fi thieves.
A spokesman for the Serious Organised Crime Agency said: “There is a certain responsibility that the individual has to assume in the fight against this. For example, they should turn on their security measures so they don’t leave themselves open to a blatant attack.”
You heard the man, turn on your security, fools. And for every second person out there, you’re looking at up to a £1,000 fine if you get caught in the act.

And BT want everyone to share their WiFi (Cause they can't be assed to upgrade from copper to fibre).
hah, you think mainland england has it bad? 2 meg broadband in the channel islands costs about 30 pounds PER MONTH (and thats the highest speed you are going to get mate)
How did they test this theory then?! How accurate are these figures? They sound very vague.
They conducted a survey online. Out of the 560 people who filled it out, 56% admitted to mooching other peoples broadband. There are two kinds of people in this world.
. . .those who poach bandwidth and those who lie about poaching bandwidth.
and those who have so much money, if they were to poach bandwidth, it would be depressingly slow?
I wish I were such a person. . .
