The guinea pig town for the change over from analogue to digital TV has announced that the switch, which began on October 17th, is finally completed.
The pilot town of Whitehaven, Cumbria (chosen, we assume, because nobody would really notice if the digital switch went horribly wrong and the place was subsumed into some other dimension) saw 25,000 homes complete the switch over to digital television.
Whitehaven locals and residents of the surrounding Copeland burrough now need to retune their freeview boxes to access the 20 digital channels coming down through the ariel.
The United Kingdom’s digital switch is set for completion in 2012. Those of you who think technology is the spawn of the devil are being urged to not rely on analogue for much longer as you will, sooner or later, be left with blank screens, unable to watch Strictly Come Dancing (we didn’t want to have to resort to shock tactics).
Elderly and disabled people will receive receive equipment to help them with the change, free installation and free support during the, erm, aftermath of this uhm, tragedy.
