WH Smith Brings the Kobo Reader to the UK
Bookseller WH Smith is all set to bring the Kobo ereader to the United Kingdom.
If you're not into Amazon's new cheap as chips Kindle (or the company's budget tablet/ereader, the Kindle Fire), then WH Smith is about to offer you an alternative. Tech Radar reports that the book seller has just signed a deal with Toronto-based Kobo that will see the Canadian company's ereading device hit UK shores.
Already available in the U.S. and Canada, the Kobo ereader will be the first ereader WH Smith sells through its brick and mortar and online stores and customers will have access to 2.2m books and 1m free titles. WH Smith will sell two different versions of the reader, the Kobo and the Kobo Touch, both of them priced to directly compete with Amazon's Kindle. The budget-friendly Kobo will retail for just £89.99, while the slightly flashier Kobo Touch will go for £109.99 when it debuts next Monday, October 17. The former is currently listed as 'out of stock' on Smith's website, while the latter appears to be in stock. Both models are available in black, silver and lilac.
