With the help of six Britons, the UK ranked number six on the medal league table at the World Cyber Games in Seattle.

Briton Shaun Clarke bagged the UK’s first ever gaming gold medal at the Games last week. Clarke, who took the gold in the Command & Conquer 3 tournament, was up against the highest ranking US and German players of the strategy game and had little trouble defeating the two for the title. For his efforts, Mr Clarke won nearly £6,000 ($12,000).

David Treacy, against the USA’s Dustin Valcalda and Austria’s Mario Hunger, managed to secure second place in the final of the Tony Hawk Project 8 tournament coming in ahead of Hunger and receiving a cheque for $5,000.

Gaming quartet Infused Gaming, comprised of Luke Shakespeare, Callum McManus, Jaden Dennis and Joshua Nino De Guzman took home the bronze for Gears of War, sharing the prize money of $8,000. The four lost out to the US and the Dutch teams.

In total the Cyber Games gave away nearly £220,000 in prize money. The games will next be held in Cologne, Germany in 2008.
