Vodafone to axe 450 jobs
If you work atVodafone’s head quarters in Newbury, look busy. They’re axing over 450 people and 20 percent of their senior management. Oh er. . .
The redundancies are part of a company wide restructuring and will see 400 people from the Newbury buildings get the heave-ho.
While there’ll be less bigwigs in Newbury, customers can expect to see more. . .eh smaller wigs, in the shops to help you figure out how to use your mobile phone.
Aside from that there’ll also be 850 new voices on the telephones ; the company announced plans for a 850-seat customer services plant in Stoke-on-Trent, not to mention the fact that they’re hiring a group of 30 people to help boost online operations.
Vodafone UK CEO, Nick Read, said the “changes” simplified the way Vodafone worked and at the same time, put the customer at the heart of the operations.
Richard Benyon, Newbury MP was quoted as saying,
“It’s obviously hugely regrettable and I feel extremely sorry for the people concerned.
“The good news is that underlying business is good and is growing, and we’re very lucky to have Vodafone’s headquarters in Newbury employing a lot of people.
“But we cannot hide the fact that a 10 per cent reduction of personnel at the Newbury headquarters is a blow to the local community, but its one that we will survive.”
