Vodafone Accidentally Confirms 16GB, 32GB iPhone 5
UK network Vodafone has accidentally confirmed the iPhone 5, spilling the beans on storage capacities and colours.
The iPhone 5 rumour mill has kicked into overdrive in the last few weeks and with no confirmation from Apple that such a device even exists, the industry is still desperate for credible sources to publicly acknowledge the phone's presence. This morning's daily dose of iPhone 5 evidence comes via Vodafone. It seems the network has accidentally confirmed the phone by casually listing it among the compatible handsets for another of its products.
TechRadar reports that the network lists the 16GB iPhone 5 (in both black and white) and the 32GB iPhone 5 (again, in both colours) as compatible with its SureSignal network enhancement box. AppleInsider managed to snag a screebgrab (above) before Vodafone removed the information in question and Vodafone has said it's looking into how how the information appears. At the moment, the network referring to the information as 'rumours and speculation.'
"Vodafone Sure Signal gives customers excellent 3G coverage in their home or small business It works with any 3G phone, regardless of manufacturer," the company said in a statement to TechRadar. "We're looking at how this listing appeared, but in the meantime we won't be commenting on any rumour or speculation."
It's possible that the Vodafone employee tasked with creating such compatibility lists threw the iPhone 5 on there because he or she either assumed that it was okay to talk about it or is assuming that the phone will come with the aforementioned options. Either way, we think it's interesting that Google is chalking this one up as rumour and speculation, despite the fact that it appeared on their website. We'll keep you posted and update if Vodafone elaborates.
