Vodafone Cuts the Price of the iPhone 4S
Vodafone has cut the price of the iPhone 4S before it's even hit shelves.
The iPhone 4S only hit pre-order status last Friday and the phone doesn't launch for three more days, however, Vodafone has already cut the price. PC Advisor notes that the up-front prices for the iPhone 4S have been dropped by as much as £120. The cheapest price Vodafone is offering for the phone is now £49 on a £41-a-month two-year deal and £46/18-month deal (for the 16GB model).
According to the site, the carrier is now charging those looking to get on the two-year £26/month plan £239 for the 16GB iPhone 4S. The price for the 16GB iPhone 4S on the 18-month £31-per-month plan is also £239. This is down £120 from the old price of £359. As far as the 32GB and 64GB models go, on these same plans and contracts, the pricing now sits at £359 for the 32GB (a reduction of £80), and £449 for the 64GB (a reduction of £70 from the old price).
If you're willing to pay a little bit more each month (£31/month on a two-year contract), you can get the 16GB iPhone for £169 up-front. The same goes for those willing to sign an 18-month contract at £36-per-month. This represents savings of £90. The 32GB and 64GB models are down £70 and £40 respectively, which brings their prices to £269 and £379. If you want the £36-per-month contract for two years, or the £41/month for 18 months) you can get the 16GB for £99, the 32GB for £199, and the 64GB for £269.
Apple announced the iPhone 4S this day last week at an event at its Cupertino campus in California. The phone boasts a dual-core Apple A5 CPU; the same dual-core GPU found in Apple's iPad 2; an all new 8-megapixel camera capable of full 1080p HD video recording; and Siri, Apple's new voice-controlled personal assistant. The company has also revamped the antenna system, which caused so many issues in the summer of 2010. It now has two sets that it will switch between to ensure call stability. The iPhone 4S also has a dual-mode GSM and CDMA radio, making it the first world-phone to come from Apple.

Doesn't seem that much differnt than just buying the phone outright from Apple (and being able to afford it obviously). Based on some quick numbers and the 32MB version:
Will have to see if any of the other phone companies offer anything better.
Direct from Apple - £600 + with £20/mnth PAYG avg
= £840 (over 12 mnths)
= £960 (over 18 mnths)
= £1080 (over 24 mnths)
Compare that to Vodafone's offerings:
£400 + with £36/mnth contract = £832 (over 12 mnths)
£359 + with £31/mnth contract = £917 (over 18 mnths)
£269 + with £36/mnth contract = £917 (over 18 mnths)
£359 + with £26/mnth contract = £938 (over 24 mnths)
£269 + with £31/mnth contract = £1013 (over 24 mnths)
£199 + with £36/mnth contract = £1063 (over 24 mnths)
So I guess having the flexibility of paying it over the terms of a contract is better than dropping it in one go from Apple. Nice work Vodafone
Obviously the above all depends on how much you use your phone too. As in, what contract best suits you.
