Vodafone Lets Users Test Drive Unlimited Data for Three Months
Take your new phone for a test drive with unlimited data.
Unlimited data plans are becoming something of a dying breed. However, Vodafone today announced that it's going to give all new and upgrading customers a taste of unlimited data for three months after they sign their contract. The new feature, dubbed Data Test Drive, is supposed to afford customers the chance to really experience Vodafone's network and explore all the different apps that this smartphone-crazy world has birthed without having to worry about data caps or overages.
"The latest smartphones allow people to do more with their mobile phone than ever before. We want customers to really play with their new handset and Data Test Drive will give them the confidence to find the apps they love and features they will use regularly," said Srini Gopalan, Consumer Director for Vodafone UK. "When you combine the freedom to experiment with your phone with the capability and reliability of the UK’s best network, you have a winning combination for any smartphone user."
So, what happens when your three months are up? Vodafone says it will contact you by text once your three-month trial has concluded and let you know how much data you've used. The network will then advise you as to whether or not the plan you're on suits your needs and offer you more data if needs be. If you don't want the extra data, you can decline.
At a time when smartphones are so popular, Vodafone's Data Test Drive seems like a clever way to educate customers on just how much data certain activities can munch through. With world+dog now wanting the latest and greatest smartphones, explaining data packages (and how much data email, video streaming, app downloads, and Skype require) can be difficult. It's not uncommon for enthusiastic new users to experience "bill shock" in the first months after they get their new device because they have no idea which apps are the data-guzzlers.
Data Test Drive is currently available with 20 of Vodafone's smartphones. The plan launched with the Xperia Arc S last week.
