Virgin Pens 3D Deal with Disney, Paramount
Virgin Media today announced a new effort to bring more 3D content to VOD customers.
Sky has been flaunting its 3D content for a while now. Between 3D football matches and 3D coverage of the launch of the 3DS, we’re no longer surprised when the station announces new plans to broadcast this event or that game in 3D. However, it seems one of Sky’s rivals is stepping up its game in the 3D arena and this time, it’s more 3D Hollywood blockbusters on offer.
Virgin Media today revealed that it has signed a deal with Paramount and Disney that will enable the company to offer Virgin Media TV customers 3D On Demand content from the two studios. The company first announced 3D On Demand content in September of last year.
"We’re thrilled to be adding this exciting range of new movies to our 3D video on demand service from two of the biggest studios Paramount Pictures and Disney," said Aleks Habdank, director of On Demand Television and Strategy at Virgin Media.
"Virgin Media pioneered 3D on Demand in the home last year, and we’re continuing to deliver a range of 3D content that’s available to all of our customers and now coupled with our new TiVo-powered service we are able to provide viewers with the most compelling TV offering in the UK."
Customers with a V HD or V+ HD set top box will be able to catch the likes of Jackass 3D and Disney’s TRON: Legacy from the comfort of their own home. Of course, it goes without saying that you'll also need to have invested in a 3DTV, too.
