Lecturer Fails to Prove Google Earth More Accurate than Speed Camera
It's not uncommon for some of us to drive a little bit faster than we intended. If we're lucky, we catch ourselves before we're caught or cause an accident. However, one lecturer at the University of Sheffield wasn't so lucky.
The Telegraph reports that lecturer at the University of Sheffield has just been handed three penalty points and fines and costs amounting to £4,000 after his claims that Google Earth was more accurate than speed cameras could not be proved.
Dr Tennore Ramesh had been caught doing 41mph in a 30mph zone, but denied he was speeding, claiming that the speed camera must have captured his speed incorrectly. Ramesh's logic was that, according to Google Earth, the distance his wife's Toyota had travelled did not match the measurement captured by the speed camera.
Unfortunately for Ramesh, it appears that the error was with Google, and not the speed camera. He was today fined £375 and ordered to pay legal costs of £3,392. As a relatively new driver with three points already on his licence, Ramesh faces the possibilty of losing his licence completely following this offence.

Idiot....
Some people are just astounding
I wouldn't pay £9k/year for him to be my lecturer...
Nice one. What would have been a simple fine of £375 got ramped right up to 4k due to being too stupid to read a speedo, what a complete tit.
That is what the white lines are for distance/time = speed rather hard to fight that
That's one hell of a bill for contesting a speeding ticket.
I hired a stupid lawyer Ms Emma Patterson, from Patterson law, that made me believe that I was correct. one message never go to a that law firm, they are plain stupid
It is a money making scheme by the city to have cameras close to where the road changes from 30-40 mph in a dual carriageway, where it should not even be 30mph limit.
