Kanguru's Secure USB Memory Stick

by

Technical developments and improvements in the manufacturing of flash storage allow one to save a large amount of data in the smallest of spaces. A large advantage over the common practice of saving to optical disc is the very short access time of flash. USB sticks play a large role in the flash memory market, as they provide easy handling, resistance against wear and tear, and compact dimensions. In many ways, they are the ideal mobile storage medium.

Finally, the low price of this memory medium contributes to its widespread use. Eight dollars for a USB stick with a capacity of 1 GB is not uncommon.

Data Theft, USB, And You

USB sticks can become a threat for companies however, because of how ubiquitous they are and how easy they are to lose. Regular USB sticks, along with MP3 players and cell phones, can be connected to the USB port of any computer, which identifies them as common hard drives. So nothing stands in the way of copying sensitive data onto these media, unless suitable precautions are taken to prevent it.

I am the Sales Manager for Appspeed www.appspeed.co.uk ...we are the UK Distributor for Kanguru. Many thanks for the positive review ...we are seeing significant interest in the Kanguru drives here in the UK with the increased concerns over security of data. However I take issue with your section 'disadvantages' and the use of that terminology to head that section as I would respectively suggest that the option to purchase a management console is an 'additional advantage' over and above the full functionality of astand alone encrypted drive and thus that section should be headed accordingly!! kind regards Mark Stott

This is just a gimmick to hide the incompetencies of people paid far too much to get pissed on company card accounts (while the real work is done by wage slaves) and leave their precious company data in the pub. I would suggest those people that lose company data especially in such a setting should be sacked. Encryption can be hacked. So why not save the money and the extra pain of getting their wonderful 'extra program' to work on the computer attached to the projector, on which you have to give a presentation in five mins and just settle for winzip encryption and all the other OS associated encryptions. Someone who wants that data will get it, especially off the drunk managing execs, normal easy encryption will stop the rest.
