UK VEVO Launch Coming ''in a Few Weeks''

by - source: Guardian

VEVO is finally going to make its UK debut.

VEVO, North America's number one music video website, is currently only available to viewers in the United States and Canada. While some of the site’s music is syndicated to YouTube, the company's actual website, vevo.com, has yet to launch outside of North America.

VEVO has been around since 2009 and hosts thousands of music videos, many with bad language censored, while offering major brands the chance to sell ads against popular content without worrying about accidentally endorsing something it deems inappropriate. A joint venture between Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Abu Dhabi Media, the international launch was scheduled for last year but was delayed due to licencing issues. Now, word has it the UK version of VEVO will launch in the next few weeks.

The Guardian reports that chief executive, Rio Caraeff, told the Abu Dhabi Media Summit that the site was "planning to launch in the UK imminently," and cites further sources that indicate a launch could come before the month is out. Launches for other countries, including the Middle East and north Africa, are expected in the coming months. However, other European countries, along with Brazil and Australia will have to wait until the second half of 2011 or later.
