On2Share Pro: Pros and Cons
Cons
- Frequent crashes of the server under Vista, sometimes with a BSOD
- Spartan interface
- Few settings and configuration options
- No automatic search for Internet radio stations
- Limited functionality after the trial period expires, forcing users to buy the full version
Pros
- Comparatively low price
- Supports a large number of A/V clients
- Offers support for multiple Internet radio stations
Summary
The On2Share software works with practically every Windows version still in use. However, while stable in Windows XP, the software still seems to be suffering from teething issues with Windows Vista, crashing more often than we would have liked to see in a final (as in: non-beta) release. The interface and configuration options are very sparse and leave little room to adapt the software to the user’s preferences. In some cases, the only way of finding out what the developers meant with a certain menu is trial and error. On the one hand, the trial period of only 14 days is rather short, on the other, the price for the dull version is very reasonable at € 20. Compared to the TwonkyMedia Server, we feel that On2Share comes up a bit short.
