Transcend announces 2.5 inch 32 GB SSD
Taipei (Taiwan) – Transcend is rolling out its second 2.5” solid state disk (SSD) drive, aiming to replace standard had disk drives in notebook computers.
Besides providing more performance, Transcend claims that the SSD consumes 80% less power than traditional hard drives. Storage capacity still trails traditional mass storage devices, but 32 GB could be enough for compact notebooks that are mainly used on the road.
Transcends 2.5” SSD comes with an SATA 1.0 interface and can be used as a drop-in replacement for 2.5” hard drives.
Pricing has not been announced but should be about twice the cost of the firm’s 16 GB model, which currently retails for around $320. The 8 GB model is sold through Internet outlets for about $170.

Considering the Cost, Capacity and Write Performance issues of SSD's highlighted in most articals and reviews, whether individual or RAIDED, I would be inclined to Selectively join an SSD and a regular disk, using Windows Junctions or Unix Symbolic Links on the SSD pointing to sections of the regular disk where write performance is impacted or capacity may become and issue, such that areas such as Page Files, "Documents and Settings" and "Program Files" maybe partially or completely stored on a regular disk.
Perhaps you could explore this?
Hi Guys
I purchased one of these exact drives and found no performance increase at all. Im not sure if this is down to a BIOS setting or another reason but it took me over 1.5 hours to install Vista to the drive.
I am running a DELL M90 with 4G RAM, 2.33 667 CPU and 7900 GS 256MB. The BIOS is the latest from the DELL site and I cannot see any setting or reason to explain my issues.
If anyone has any ideas about what may be happening I would really like to hear from you.
I installed TRANSCEND 2.5" IDE 32GB SSD SOLID STATE HARD DRIVE in my tc4200 laptop it was fantastic if you have a life span of one million years and have the brain speed of a sloth. Yes for all the people with brain damage please get this SSD.
I got my mate to try it on his Toshiba laptop. HA HA HA. I alreadys pent two days on it. NOw my mate has gone insane. He took the drive and tossed and it had a mechanical failure . It flys through the air fast thats about it.
