Toshiba Unveils Triple GPU Notebook

Toshiba has introduced the world’s first notebooks with triple Nvidia GPUs ; the Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706. Featuring two Nvidia Geforce 9800M GTS GPUs and an integrated Geforce 9400M GPU, users can now choose between maximum performance and quiet operation.

The newly introduced Toshiba Qosmio X305 gaming notebooks with triple GPUs are currently offered in two models ; the X305-Q708 and the X305-Q706. Both models feature two discrete Geforce 9800M GTS GPUs with SLI technology and a single integrated Geforce 9400M GPU. Toshiba claims the new Qosmio X305 notebooks are the first to ever feature triple Nvidia GPUs. Thanks to Nvidia’s Hybrid SLI technology, users are able to easily switch between the powerful dual Geforce 9800M GTS GPUs and the integrated Geforce 9400M, depending on whether scorching performance or quiet operation is desired.

Although it might be described as gaudy by some and stylish by others, it is easy enough to agree that the Qosmio X305 is at least eye catching. The Qosmio X305 series features a brilliant red and black color theme, along with a flashy flame design across the back of the 17-inch LCD display. Unfortunately for those who may wish to flaunt the notebook off in public, these new notebooks weigh over 9-pounds, making them something that may end up rarely leaving the desk, except for the occasional LAN party. The fact these notebooks also come equipped with a 230 W AC adapter hints that maybe the included 3200 mAh battery will have its work cut out for it. Using the integrated graphics when mobile should help to extend battery life however.

The fully-loaded Qosmio X305-Q708 features a quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 processor (2.53 GHz | 12 MB L2 | 1066 MHz FSB | 45 W TDP), 4GB of DDR3 1066 MHz memory and a 128 GB solid state drive. The system also features a 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD, a DVD drive, a 17.0-inch WSXGA+ LCD display, Bluetooth V2.1, 802.11n, a webcam, gigabit LAN, 4 premium speakers with subwoofer, IEEE-1394, 5-in-1 media adapter and Windows Vista Ultimate. The Qosmio X305-Q706 offers much the same, although it features instead an Intel Core Duo P8400 processor (2.26 GHz | 1066 MHz FSB | 3 MB L2 | 25 W TDP), offers no SSD and comes with Windows Vista Home Premium.

The Qosmio X305-Q708 is available for $4,199 and the Qosmio X305-Q706 is available for a much more affordable $1,999. If you simply must have top notch gaming performance, the Toshiba Qosmio X305 series should definitely be one choice to consider.
