Editor's Corner: Revitalising Tom's Hardware UK
Greetings, Tom's UK readers!
As some of you may have noticed over the last couple of weeks, there's been quite a bit of activity on tomshardware.co.uk in terms of UK-specifc news and localised content. This is a result of a renewed effort to bring UK readers more relevant content about local companies, products and events.
Though things will be slow to start with, over the coming months we hope to do a lot more with UK. As far as editorial goes, for the moment, it's just me holding down the fort and keeping things ticking over. I was part of the UK team back in 2007 and am extremely pleased to be back writing and working to make everything more interesting for you, even if I can't do it full time. It's great to see all these old familiar faces/usernames that have been haunting the Tom's forums for years (Mi1ez, Lephuronn, 13thMonkey, the list is pretty long!).
In the more immediate future, I'll be localising as much of the U.S. content as possible and going forward you'll see less of the U.S.-only stuff appearing on the UK homepage (such as news about US-only carriers, like Sprint, and system builders articles exclusive to Newegg).
However, if all goes according to plan, and provided things work out well, it should ramp up as the year wears on and we'll be able to provide you guys with even more content and some really great UK-specific content.
For now, we'd like ANY input you guys have on what kind of Tom's UK you’d like to see. Suggestions, concerns, requests, complaints, lay it all on me in the comments below!

I noticed the site was looking a bit more UK friendly. Keep up the good work.
I noticed the system builder marathon had been removed as of late today - day 2 - Personaly I always liked reading the marathon builds.
Honestly? This site needs more Nicolas Cage: http://youtu.be/xP1-oquwoL8

They're sponsored by Newegg, which doesn't ship to the UK, which makes the posts less relevant for UK readers. We'll continue to post them to .co.uk, but they will not be localised.
Yes it's good to see MSRPs in £s and not in $, and relevant to UK. Keep up the good work!

Probably that's what tom's UK need - a UK sponsor.
Sounds good - can we have prices in £ from UK suppliers, competitions open to UK residents

Prices: yes.
Competitions: I'm working on that, and I don't see what not.
Jane, you rock. Keep up the good work.
More pictures of you please!
On both US and UK sites. Heh.
I just hope you can fix the issues while posting before logging in, I just posted a message and it didn't post it after the log in confirmaiton. What I was saying anyway, you could have Overclokers for uk or any other instead of newegg
and I hope this site can stay clean of annoying ads for clothes or whatever..Thumbs up for TH!
I'm not sure Overclockers are big enough to sponsor, but they are just down the road from me and I've watched them grow over the years so it could be an option.
Top contenders for sponsor I think would be Scan UK, eBuyer, Dabs and possibly Overclockers.

Great suggestions, guys!! Thank you so much for taking time to help out.
Nice photo Jane, in the words of Kieth Lemon "Bang Tidy!"
More NSFW content please.
just keep up the good work and im happy
Good thinking, I look forward to seeing more relevant UK content.

...Can we persuade Newegg to ship to the UK instead?
Toms Australia please!
It's amazing the difference it makes to my mornings seeing UK news. It's especially refreshing with things like mobile and broadband news which are totally irrelephant from the US.
Thank you Jane!
Also, How does it feel to have your face on the front page?!
Keep it up, it'll be worth it, i'm sure it'll be appreciated. Keep the marathon builds up, they give some people ideas of what might go together well. An investigative piece on the price differences between the UK and the US might be a nice idea, we winge about it but i've got a feeling that its not the suppliers or the manufacturers fault. Thanks for making a proper start on it.

Overclockers UK???
Nice one Jane keep up the good work.
Agree with the comments above about the spam posts (really annoying) and problems posting comments before logging in.
I would think eBuyer would be a larger company for sponsorship than Overclockers but hey approach everyone you don't ask you don't get.
Apart from that looking forward to seeing what idea's you bring to the site, a fresh perspective is always a good thing.

Also possibly Novatech and Aria while I think about it.
I look forward to seeing how this develops. I don't have a problem with most of the non-localised content. System builder guides, for example, are still relevant, and I'm sure most readers are resourceful enough to source components from local suppliers on their own. I'm not so interested in listening to the endless US mobile carrier drama (seriously, things are messed up for you guys), although handset articles are usually a good read.

As far as suppliers go, Scan, Overclockers UK, Dabs and occasionally eBuyer are my Newegg alternatives. As others have said, I expect you'd be able to convince at least one of those to sponsor a competition or two.
Thanks for not forgetting about the eccentrics across the pond!
Less spam in the comments would be nice.
scan have hexus.net as their tech site, so i doubt they'd be interested, it might make the others interested though to have a mature site on side as a strategic partner of some kind.
Your hard work is very much appreciated... many thanks Jane.
In my opinion Ebuyer is by far the biggest and best electronics provider in the UK. I've used Scan, Dabs, Micro etc none of them compare to Ebuyers customer service. Even after I moved to Berlin I still continued to use Ebuyer and shipped the components over myself.
If you're going to get in bed with any supplier of components it should be them.
What would be nice (and you probably already mentioned this) would be comparisons of mobile phone packages but with UK suppliers, and competitions of course would be great if they allowed UK entry.
Apart from that, I think the content on here is excellent, and I enjoy the reviews you produce - mainly because they're obviously your honest opinion. Lots of reviews eg Anandtech focus too much on the technical side which is useful to a point, but it doesn't tell the whole story, wheras your reviews are more genuine
Maybe do one of these suggestion/improvement etc threads every month or two? I mean, I feel like we'd get a better user experience from it and also you'd get a better idea of how to make it better.... or something. Idk. Not saying you should do everything we say of course, far from it. It's your choice to do what you think is best but perhaps working as a team would make the whole thing easier for everyone =)
Keep up the good work!

Way ahead of you. There's lots and lots of great ideas in here and I'm sure people will have more as time goes by! It's really, really helpful to have genuine suggestions along with the feedback.
Hi,
I've been reading Toms Hardware for many years. I spotted a mistake in an article recently. So I put an entry in the comments. No response from the author. I looked at the same story 2 weeks later and there were lots of comments but mine had disappeared. After wondering for a while why my comment had been removed, I realised that the comments on .com and .co.uk are segregated. The author was replying to comments on the US thread. If the UK and US are reading the same article, I think we should be reading and contributing to the same comments thread. For the moment I will just post comments to the .com site.
Thanks
Gareth
