Kinect Director: FPS Not Played on PCs Anymore
Kinect's creative director claims that FPS games aren't played on the PC anymore, however Tim Willits comes to the rescue.
Oh the horror. Kinect creative director Kudo Tsunoda recently told Game Informer in an interview that hardly anyone plays FPS games on the PC anymore. The comment isn't all that surprising considering that Tsunoda is out to promote Microsoft’s new motion sensing device for the Xbox 360. Still, his view will likely ruffle a few feathers in the PC gaming community considering that the comment isn't all that precise.
When asked about first-party games and exclusives for Kinect, Tsunoda said that Microsoft doesn't want to import a controller-based experience. He brought up FPS games on the PC as an example, saying that developers tried to port existing shooters over to consoles, however the games lost their fun-factor because the core control scheme (mouse, keyboard) was crammed into a single controller. According to Tsunoda, that changed with the original Halo.
"Halo did an awesome job of building a first-person shooter exclusively for the console, and now hardly anyone plays first person shooters on the PC anymore," he said. "It's all about the console."
What?
In retaliation against Tsunoda's seemingly biased statement, id Software's Tim Willits came forth and defended the genre and all the PC gamers still fragging each other outside the console realm. After all, who else would know better about the PC FPS than the creators behind the Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake franchises?
In a brief interview with Eurogamer, Willits not only defended the PC platform, but took a jab at the console platform's unstable presence in the gaming industry. "In my opinion, the PC will always be the core of the gaming industry--it is the timeless stable platform that as developers we will always be able to rely on," he said. "Unlike consoles, the PC doesn't disappear because one company decided it wasn't profitable or decided to make a new version. The PC platform is always evolving but staying stable."
Naturally, the best, precise controls for FPS games is on the PC. "The FPS genre is still great on the PC, the input controllers are very responsive, the keyboard allows many more choices and options, and the social networking of the PC allows you to reach out and play with your friends much easier than any of the consoles. Plus, as any hardcore FPS gamer will tell you, the mouse is still the best device for aiming."
Say that again? The mouse is still the best device for aiming.
Over the last decade, the FPS genre has seemingly divided into two classes thanks to Halo: the PC FPS and the console FPS. PC gamers will argue why their platform is far more superior than their console counterparts--console owners will likewise do the same. Nevertheless, the FPS genre is thriving on both platforms, and in the end that leaves the pockets of publishing executives quite full and happy.

Tsunoda who? never heard of that moron
As Tim Willits should of said. STFU Kudo, you aint got a clue what your on about.
If I remember right....

Microsoft did an experiment to test if it was feasible to mix X-Box Live players with PC players. To that end they:
brought in a bunch of average PC fps gamers
+
brought in a bunch of expert console fps gamers
then had a few rounds of matches...
It was such a whitewash that they canned the idea of letting these two platforms mix as it would be too frustrating to their console players getting owned all the time who would get put off playing LOL
Microsoft proved themselves that the PC is FPS Gaming King
Who's that moron? He should look at the stats on Steam or Xfire, FPS is second most played genre after MMORPG.
Heh, Tsunoda always seamed kind of a wierdo to me.
I like what he (or probably some IT guys he's representing) are doing with Kinect, but noone will EVER convince me that a console controler is a sensibe device to play FPS games with.
Pc and Console FPS are both suffering from hackers using aimbots, glitches and hacked versions of the games.
This is why I don't tend to play these on any platform any more
Really sad that such an enjoyable genre of gaming can be spoilt by such a bunch of morons :@
*sigh*
I'm probably from a difficult set of people - I play FPS on the PC quite frequently, but I haven't bought any for ages, not because I've been downloading pirated versions but because I still quite enjoy playing mods for half-life and half-life 2.
I think his comments will be largely ignored rather than properly ruffling feathers.
PC is the spiritual home of FPS, the only reason why this moron is plugging FPS on the console is because his very own employer recently proved that inter-platform multiplayer support for FPS releases will be stupid because even the most average of PC players can own elite console players. In this case, he wants to make sure his corner gets as much publicity as possible since MS forced this market to stay very much split.
Oh and for the record, i never ever have a problem getting on a pretty much full server on Bad Company 2, MW2 etc on my PC.

Sorry for dp and for re-iterating what you said. Utter win of a comment.
I've mostly moved my gaming to the 360, even though I have a full spec computer capable of playing anything (even Crysis).
But, this comment is retarded. Loads of people still game on PCs, this guy is full of shit.
I agree at most of the comments above, i dont even own a console and if i did it would be a nintendo for zelda until it's completed, then i'd give it away/sell it as it's no longer any use to me ^^

PC's are the ONLY place to game for me, and allways have been ...consoles are "so 1980"
I havnt enjoyed console gaming sinse the n64 days. Plus think off the emulators we have on pc thats lets us enjoy all the old classics with lil or no trouble.
This should be filed under the heading "No publicity is bad publicity". Personally I think players from consoles & PCs should mix. There would still be places where you could maintain exclusivity of formats, but people could choose either way. Of course the console players would get mutilated, but that is the same as a weaker player trying to compete against harder opposition anyway.
I think there has been only one game that has actually crossed the console/pc gaming. Cant remember the name but i do know it wasnt a very good game at the time.

no worries
Steam seems to be winning games designers back to the PC again too.
They don't fear lost sales due to piracy any more...
One of the main benefits to developing games for consoles is the perceived lack of piracy.
Consoles just lost their Ace...
and there are a Lot more PC's out there than consoles!
ROFL x infinity!!
(tries to stiffle laughter long enough to speak)
lol.....really?, funny because most of the previous PC fps i've played,
there's people still playing them, going from Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament right upto MW2 and even the most up to the minute releases.
Ok, sure there's been a lot more people playing console shooters like MAG, Halo, Gears, and even resistance, but people not playing on PC FPS' anymore....just couldn't be further from the truth.
Realy,so on what do people play them on, kinect?!!
I think thats the dumbest statement ive heard from a guy at MS

It was Shadowrun, and the Xbox players quit through being completely owned. I just don't get Microsoft or Sony for that matter, if they really want to get FPS players on to their inferior consoles make the games keyboard and Mouse compatible, untioll then no PC gamer will be interested.
I mean it's not rocket science
Quake 3 arena on the Dreamcast had the right idea. It supported keyboard and mouse AND it was cross-platform from what i remember
