Taiwan mobo makers to build Viiv 1.5-based motherboards in H2 2006

A number of Taiwan-based motherboard makers are aiming to enter production of Intel’s Viiv 1.5-based motherboards in the second half of this year for the PC clone market while focusing on the production of Viiv 1.0 motherboards for OEM PC makers in the first half, according to sources at the makers. Some makers even plan to start production the 1.6 version of Viiv motherboards for the channel in the fourth quarter since the 1.6-based motherboards will be backwards compatible with Viiv 1.0- and Viiv 1.5-based PCs, the sources noted.
