Star Wars Lightsabers in USB Flash Drive Form

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

The Force, powered by USB.

Novelty USB flash drives can be the perfect example of geeky utility. Aside from Transformers USB that actually transform, the next coolest thing could be USB Lightsabers that actually light up.

These official Lucasfilm licensed USB products come in both Darth Vader's red design or Luke Skywalker's green design and measure five inches long. Capacity-wise, they're not much at only 1GB, but the appeal of this product isn't related to storage – it's about having a glowing Lightsaber protruding from your USB port. Sadly, they don't make any noise.

ThinkGeek is now selling these for $20 each.

Nah.

I want a real lightsabre. I'll find a link later, but apparently Japanese scientists have developed a way to actually stop the projection of a laser beam at a certain distance.

They're using it for "laser fireworks" but how long before Lucas authorises proper, actual lightsabers that emit a beam?

Darth Maul double blade for me kthxbai!

Pretty good but ...

For just a few more pence they could have added in the sound when it get's plugged in and that would have made it a "must buy" USB device for me :)

^^ I'll go one further: sabre ON when plugged in, sabre OFF when unplugged, although the extra circuitry and battery required to trigger a sound when the main connection is disconnected might add a tiny bit to the cost.

LePhuronn, I agree, that's the way it should be.or it would be good to hear the vibration of it while is connected.
May the USB be with you.
