Sony Makes Cuts to Smaller UK Projects

by - source: Develop-Online

Restructuring at Sony will see an undisclosed number of job losses for the company’s UK staff.

Sony has confirmed that it will be reducing staff and shutting down a number of its smaller projects at Sony Liverpool, Sony London, and Evolution Studios. While Guilford-based Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet) has been spared any layoffs or cuts, Sony did not disclose how many people will be laid off during the restructuring.

"It has been decided that production on a small number of projects within London Studio, Studio Liverpool, and Evolution Studios will be streamlined or closed due to a portfolio review and project prioritisation," Sony told Develop-Online in a statement.

However, while some projects are being axed, Sony was quick to reassure Develop that this had no bearing on the affected studios and their collective future at the company.

"The affected first party studios have been, and will continue to be, vital assets within the WWS family, and have a history of producing genre-defining games such as MotorStorm, WipEout, SingStar and EyePet," the statement reads.

"This decision will have no impact on the role that our first party studios will play in the future of all PlayStation platforms."

Sony did not specify as to what plans are affected by the decision, but it is thought they are unannounced projects.
