Sony's Xperia Play Gets Hefty UK Price Drop
Good news for those that felt the old SIM-free pricing was far too steep.
For all the hype surrounding the device in the run up to its launch, Sony's PlayStation phone didn't make a massive splash when it finally launched. Perhaps it was because we'd been waiting for the device for years, but the phone wasn't met with huge crowds and massive line-ups. Today, the device is getting a hefty, hefty price-drop, courtesy of online retailer Expansys.
Crave reports that the etailers has dropped the SIM-free price of the Sony Xperia Play to just £200, down from the £600 it cost at launch (which was less than five months ago) and Expansys' most recent price of £335. Play.com is currently selling the phone for £300 and Amazon.co.uk is asking £340, while Carphone Warehouse is still pushing the Play for a whopping £520. Yikes!
In case your memory is a bit foggy, the Xperia Play boasts the Xperia Play boasts a 4-inch 480x854 (FWVGA) display, 8GB of storage via microSD, Gingerbread, a 1GHz Scorpion ARMv7 CPU, 512MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, support for USB 2.0, Bluetooth, WiFi, up to 5 hours and 35 minutes of game time from the battery (roughly 8 hours of talk time, depending on the network), and the all important slide-out d-pad with analog pads and L&R shoulder buttons.
