Sony Google TV Blu-ray Players Bound for UK this Summer

by - source: The Verge

Sony was showing off a number of Google-branded set-top boxes and TVs at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month and it seems things are on track for the UK to get a little taste of Google-branded Sony products this summer.

Though a specific release date has not been mentioned, The Verge reports that Sony was showing off a few Google boxes in London today and plans to launch hardware in the United Kingdom in the summertime. The company didn't mention whether this would include the new settop boxes shown off at CES, but the NSZ-GT1 Blu-ray player was apparently on display and will be among the products hitting shelves this summer.

Of course, what use is a Google TV-equipped Blu-ray player or settop box when Google TV has yet to launch in the UK? This summertime launch indicates that we might not have long to wait for Google TV's UK debut. Eric Schmidt confirmed last autumn that the platform would arrive in Europe early this year and stated that the UK launch was considered a priority for Google.

Here's hoping Google is still aiming for an early-2012 launch and that things stay on track. Are you eager for the launch of Google TV? Let us know in the comments below!
