Sony announces seven new cameras

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

Tokyo (Japan) – With the Photo Marketing Association’s (PMA) big convention next week, all the camera manufacturers are raining down their newest models. Sony is no exception and has unveiled seven new cameras in their Cybershot line from low-end models to prosumer-level cameras with 10X optical zoom and Carl Zeiss lenses.

The new S780 and S750 cameras are fairly basic with 3X optical zoom and up to ISO 1250. The only difference is the S750 shoots in 7.2 mega-pixels while the S780 captures at 8.1 MP per shot. These cameras will be available in March and April respectively.

The updated W-series has the W120, 130, 150 and 170. Along with ISOs of up to 3200 and mega-pixel capture from 7.2 to 10.1 MP, these cameras have two very interesting – and supposedly intelligent – features. The first is an adult and child detection system that supposedly provides the correct exposure depending on age. The cameras also have a “Smile Shutter” feature that takes a picture when someone in the frame smiles. TG Daily will be reporting on site from PMA 08 and we’ll definitely give these cameras a whirl.

For the fashion conscious, Sony will sell the T300 which is a slim, pocket-sized, camera that does 10.1 MP with a respectable 5X optical zoom. Retail price on this camera will be $400.

Finally, the prosumer crowd may like the new H10 which has a 10X optical zoom with a Carl Zeiss lens. Pictures are captured in 8.1 mega-pixels.
