Sky Announces Launch of Sky Sports iPad App
Watch the footy live from anywhere.
Here's a nice little present to brighten up sports fans' dreary January: Sky has just announced the launch of a Sky Sports app for the iPad. The company today highlighted the growing popularity of tablets in the United Kingdom and revealed that three of its apps appeared in ComScore's top 20 UK apps by cellular data usage in the UK. This includes the Sky Sports Football Score Centre, which appeared at number eight.
Sky's Director of Mobile, David Gibbs, said that the company's success in the app market is the reason it's launching yet another app. Now available via Apple's App Store, Sky Sports for iPad offers live and on-deamnd content as well as up-to-the-minute data on your favourite clubs and teams, and is available free of charge to Sky Sports and Entertainment Extra customers. Those who don't have Sky Sports or Entertainment Extra (which includes Sky Sports News) will have to pay £4.99 per month for the application.
" [...] Sky customers really value new and diverse experiences on smartphones and tablets that enable them to enjoy content on the move – and as long as this demand continues, we’ll continue to do all we can to meet it," said Gibbs.
We've no doubt the app offers a rich experience for dedicated sports fans. However, assuming die-hard sports fans already subscribe to Sky Sports, will casual fans want to pay £5 a month for the app? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
