Samsung Could Add Sky Player to Android Phones
Samsung is said to be considering the addition of a Sky Player to its Galaxy line of Android smartphones.
Samsung last month launched a 3D streaming service for owners of select Samsung 3DTV sets and the company last year brought BBC’s popular iPlayer to its web-connected TVs. However, the company’s VOD focus is not limited to its televisions. According to TechRadar UK, Samsung is eager to increase the presence of on-demand video on its smartphones and is considering an embedded Sky Player as a solution.
TR cites Simon Stanford, the UK and Ireland MD for Samsung's mobile division, as saying that BBC iPlayer is just the beginning of its mobile VOD efforts and hopes that things will eventually lead to a sort of Sky box experience on your smartphone.
"[BBC iPlayer] has been a big push for us, and we're looking at Sky Player too, which is something that's going to be coming along too,” Stanford said. “If you look at evolution of where these kinds of apps are going to go, I think we're [eventually] looking at an extension of a Sky box onto your phone.
"The interesting thing is the idea of a converged device is something people have been talking about forever, but it's here now."
Would you like to see a heavier VOD presence on your mobile phone? Do you think it's a good idea, or do you think people prefer to watch their shows at home on a larger screen? Let us know in the comments below!

Personally I love being able to watch video on my droid smartphone (iPlayer, YouTube etc). It's especially handy when the wife is watching the TV. I also use SkyPlayer on my laptop already so having it on the phone & tablet (when I get one) will be nice too.
