With sales of game consoles booming, especially for the Wii and Xbox 360, there has been growing demand for components of built-in DVD-ROM drives, and this has led to tight supply of such components, especially during the third quarter peak season for DVD burners/drives, according to industry sources in Taiwan. Matsushita Electric Industrial, Sanyo Electric and Sankyo Seiki are the world’s major suppliers of DVD pick-up heads (PUHs), the most important related components, the sources indicated.
