Looks like Sega is getting ready to rid itself of the remnants of its hardware business as it moves on to become a developer of games for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, and Game Boy Advance. The company just reduced the price Dreamcast video game machine by 20%. Sega told the world back in January that it wouldn't be making any more gaming hardware. Last year the company cut the price of Dreamcast to $149 from $199. In January, it followed with another price drop to about $99. The latest reduction down to $79.95 becomes effective Sunday. Sega will also drop the prices of the Dreamcast controller to $14.95, the visual memory unit (VMU) to $9.95 and the Sonic Hardware Bundle to $99.95. The Sonic Hardware Bundle includes a Dreamcast, "Sonic Adventure," "Sonic Shuffle" and a Sonic blue VMU. Sega hopes to sell off the remaining stash of hardware by the end of the year, so if this price cut doesn't clear out the warehouses, the consoles could get cheap enough to buy as a collectors' items to put next to that old Amiga.
